Suicide in the Fire Service
This presentation will address the issue of suicide in the fire service, with attendees learning about the prevalence of suicide on a national level, as well as within the first responder community. Molly Jones, LSW, will discuss theories of suicide, risk and protective factors of suicide for fire services members and barriers to accessing treatment.

Attendees will learn about identifying warning signs for suicide and the basics of assessment, in an effort to be better equipped to help themselves, as well as peers. This presentation will seek to empower attendees to ask appropriate questions if they are concerned for suicide in a peer and how to best intervene.

This presentation is ideal for IAFF members (active and retired), clinicians, fire service leadership, peer support team members, chaplains, spouses, and other individuals who may be seeking to learn more about suicide in the fire service and ways they can contribute to prevention efforts.
