OH Professional Education Series: Mental Illness and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Description:
Considering the prevalence of people who have Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who also have mental health diagnosis and / or histories of trauma, to provide the highest quality of care professionals need to understand this population's unique needs. It is imperative to properly assess and adapt treatment modalities to be person centered in delivering services and supporting this population using best practices.

Course Objectives:
1) Gain a better understanding of adults and children who have Intellectual Disabilities and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and their needs for mental health services.
2) Understand prevalence of co-occurring mental illness and developmental disabilities.
3) Gain a better understanding of the therapeutic interventions that can be adapted for people with IDD.
4) Review Trauma-Informed Care implications for people with IDD.

2 Credit Hours

Time: 10AM - 12PM EST

The Recovery Village Columbus has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7059. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The Recovery Village Columbus is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

NBCC credit is automatically accepted for National Certified Counselors recertification. Most state Professional Counselor Licensure Boards readily accept NBCC credit for licensure renewal. In order to be certain, contact your board directly for information on their continuing education requirements.
